Jon Hynes and Sean Cahill set off from the Old Head of Kinsale on the 16th June 2015 to attempt a circumnavigation of Ireland. Being both experienced kayakers, they are relying on their own equipment and skills to navigate around the coastline. Kindly sponsored by CH Marine and Yak, they are exposed to all the elements that the Irish weather systems can summon. Jon & Sean have been attempting to camp wherever possible in sheltered coves and bays, though a great network of kayaking friends have also offered beds

You can follow their progress on http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0gUUCtNBtyKZq8Iv0lBbIouKRqbgD0c1f or on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sea-Kayak-Around-Ireland/1592223701059177

They are doing this as a personal challenge and hopefully to serve as a resource for anyone else looking to attempt a trip in the future. A documentary of the trip will be released in October 2015.

Here is a short video of Jon Hynes & Sean Cahill out  training for their Round Ireland by Sea Kayak attempt. This gives you an idea what it can be like at sea when you encounter rough seas, heavy rain, poor visibility. Still though, as you can see their Rockpool Taran 18 Kayaks make good progress despite the conditions.
